Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. She was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell is a regular as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times in journalism, among them her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was a reporter at in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news stories such as arm control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
